Deadline for Wealden's Small Grants Programme.

The second round of Wealden's Small Grants Programme is  now open to voluntary and  community groups.  But please hurry - the deadline for applications is 12 June. Groups can apply for grants of between £300 and £1000.  The money must be spent by March 2010.  Wealden District Council is looking to support local organisations and charities to the tune of  £20,000 through this year's small grants programme.

Grants will be awarded to those schemes that fit in with the Council's own  priorities. These include promoting health, prosperity and community safety; preserving and enhancing our environment for future generations and providing leadership within Wealden's local communities.

"Past grants have been awarded to help young people take up a new sport, improve access to community halls,  provide activities for older people and introduce energy-saving equipment into village halls," said Peter Griggs, Head of Public Health and Community Development at Wealden District Council.

The Small Grants Programme is just one part of the £347,000  Wealden is putting into the community this year  through its Community Grants Programme.  Among the beneficiaries in Wealden are Citizens Advice which is receiving a £157,000 service  grant, and Anchor Staying Put, the organisation that carries out improvements to allow elderly residents to stay in their own home, which is receiving is £60,000 this year.

There is a wide range of other funding sources - both local and national - which can help local organisations with their projects.  Wealden's Grants and Voluntary Sector Support Officer helps identify relevant grants and assists local organisations with their applications.

Wealden's Small Grants Programme is being administered by the Eastbourne Association of Voluntary Services, whose area covers the whole of Wealden.
